Congregation-Wide LGBTQI+ Initiative Begins!
In 2024 PBUUC members chose three congregation-wide social projects to implement: Voting, Women, and LGBTQIA+. The LGBTQI+ initiative — Love Plus — is starting now.
Carol Boston, Eric Eldritch, Mark DeNome, Margaret McLellan, and Lula Beatty, as a Diversity Anti/Racism Transformation Team representative, are leading this effort.
We will be offering education and information, opportunities for direct action and participation, and support to local LGBTQIA+ groups in line with our commitment to being a Welcoming Congregation.
Here is a preview of some upcoming activities.
WorldPride will be held in DC this year with activities spanning from May 23 – June 8 including a Human Rights Conference and the WorldPride Parade.
We will be recruiting people to march in the Pride Parade on June 7 and participate in the conference and encouraging people to attend the WorldPride interfaith service that will be held on June 3 at All Souls. Financial assistance will be provided for the conference attendance.
We have begun developing a relationship with Bowie State University. Bowie is an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) located in Prince George’s County. It’s the first HBCU to establish an LGBTQIA+ program. We are developing plans to collaborate on activities and events supportive of students there.
Advocating for LGBTQIA+ communities is critical now. We are developing advocacy plans for the next church year.
Additional information will be available at a table in the lobby later this month. Contact any of the team members if you have questions, suggestions, or want to participate in activities.
