May 19th is Whitsunday in the Christian liturgical calendar and Pentecost in the Jewish liturgical calendar. What do the stories of these holidays have to do with us? One of the hallmarks of our faith, according to 20th century UU theologian James Luther Adams, is an attitude of ultimate optimism. This sermon looks at Adams’ work and connects it back to the ancient stories about Whitsunday and Pentecost.
