Emmett Till, Just A Boy. Mamie Till, Just A Mama: Igniting the Conscience of America

Our fifth principle affirms the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large. Conscience, the inner voice that tells us the truth and urges us to do right, is often silenced and ignored by fear and expediency. What happens when differing societal consciences are at war with each other? Emmett Till was just a boy when he was ruthlessly tortured and murdered by men who didn’t recognize or respect his humanity and value. Mamie Till, an everyday mother, was called by conscience and motherly grief and love to seek justice for her child and all Black people This service will explore the impact of Emmett and Mamie Till on the conscience of America.
