Poverty, by America
by Matthew Desmond
Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 7:00 – 8:30 pm
“Why? Why all this poverty? To understand the causes of poverty, we must look beyond the poor. Those of us living lives of privilege and plenty must examine ourselves. Are we – we the secure, the insured, the housed, the college-educated, the protected, the lucky – connected to all this suffering? This is a book about poverty that is not just about the poor. Instead, it’s a book about how the other other half lives, about how some lives are made small so that others may grow.”
Sue Bollens will lead the discussion. Please read the Prologue through Chapter 5. You are welcome to join in our discussion even if you haven’t read the book.
The Zoom link will be sent to all people on the Bookread email list. If you are not on this list and would like to receive the Zoom link or be added to the DARTT Bookread Mailing List, send an e-mail to dartt@pbuuc.org.
