Special Collections for November: Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment

Special Collections

The November Special Collection will be the Day Center run by the Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE).  CUCE is a group of congregations that includes University Christian Church, University Baptist Church, University Methodist Church, St. Andrews Episcopal, and Hyattsville Mennonite Church.   Paint Branch has been attending CUCE meetings.  The Day Center is held at UCC and managed by the former coordinator of the Warm Nights program of which PBUUC was an active participant and is in desperate need of funding as they lost a county grant due the cutting of the county budget.

The center provides laundry and showering facilities, food, and conversation to 30-35 adults.  During the holiday season, gifts of essential items are given also.

Contributions can be made by check, cash, or online through Breeze on November 17 and November 24.   Please write checks payable to PBUUC with either “special collection” or Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE) in the memo line.  Special Collection envelopes will be in your order of service for cash.  Your generosity is appreciated.

Do you have ideas where future special collections should go?  Please let the special collection team know of your great idea.  You can contact us through special-collections@pbuuc.org.
