Back in 2019, when Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck decided to retire due to the mental strain of playing football the fans booed him off the field. A stigma is when someone views you negatively because of a distinguishing characteristic or personal trait thats thought to be a disadvantage. Unfortunately, negative attitudes and beliefs toward people who have a mental health condition are common. We accept people asking for accommodations or help when they have physical health concerns, but we often don’t do the same for those with a mental illness. How can we change that?
