Religious freedom has traditionally been interpreted as the right to worship, or not, as you see fit. But in recent years, the Supreme Court has embraced a theory of religious freedom that threatens to open the door to discrimination and harms against others, especially members of the LGBTQ community, followers of minority faiths and non-believers. This sermon will examine the historic interpretation of religious freedom and explore options for ensuring that this vital principle is used as a shield to protect individual rights and not a sword to lash out at others.
