Wanted: Tech Support Specialist

Reports to: Minister
Effective: Position is open immediately
Directly Supervises: none
Status: 6-8 hours / week, on average
Time off: Two paid Sundays off per year; up to one additional unpaid Sunday off per month as negotiated with the Minister.
Salary: $40/hour, no benefits
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Lead tech support for in-person and Zoom church services, including Sunday afternoon camera and sound operation and video processing from 2 to 5 p.m. at our rental location, University Christian Church, 6800 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, with work-from-home preparation of slides and tech scripts during the week. As requested, and as time permits, provide tech support for other church programs as approved by the Minister.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the camera and soundboard on-site for a progressive faith community meeting on Sunday afternoons, including operating equipment during service, accommodating recording and streaming, sharing slides in Zoom and projecting in church
  • Prepare weekly tech scripts, reviewing the order of service and tech cues with service leaders
  • Facilitate pre-service tech and sound check, enabling worship leaders and musicians to be properly heard and seen during the actual service
  • Edit and upload the service recording to the church website by Sunday evening; edit recording on Facebook as needed
  • Create or assemble slides, slide deck, and other media for each service, with attention to copyright permissions
  • Keep technical documentation up-to-date and train volunteers to perform the above functions as needed
  • Manage schedule of volunteer tech support
  • Stay informed on Zoom updates and provide Zoom tech support and troubleshooting as needed and as available for church staff and congregants
  • Suggest ideas for upgrading our multi-platform equipment and procedures, including exploring a ProPresenter license, and implement upgrades as directed, and as time permits
  • Foster inclusive community. This includes affirming and supporting the racial identities, gender identities, sexual orientations, differing abilities and other gifts present in our congregation, and engaging in ongoing work of dismantling systems of oppression of marginalized groups.

  • Meet regularly with the minister, and other staff and volunteers as designated by the minister

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency with software and online tools including Zoom, PowerPoint, Google Workspace, and live streaming to Facebook
  • Experience with camera and/or sound systems
  • Ability to work independently and make judgments in performance situations
  • Must be 18 years old or older and have reliable transportation

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Able to move freely in and out of the accessible areas of the church campus.
